Celebrating 16 years of Financial Freedom Bootcamps for young adults
The education system is failing our children financially
Nearly every young adult in Canada emerges from our schools woefully underprepared for the financial realities of the world. Most never receive the opportunity to learn key concepts that are critical to financial success, such as:
- Understanding how to build and stick to a budget
- How taxes work, and how to file a tax return
- The basics of investing and behaviour of successful investing
- How to identify good debt vs bad debt
And the stats back this up: nearly 50% of Canadians are less than $200 from insolvency.
Celebrating 16 years of Financial Freedom Bootcamps for young adults
Way back in 2007, we decided to make a dent in this “financial literacy gap” for young adults by hosting our first Financial Bootcamp, which was so successful it immediately became an annual event. The demand from our clients to help educate the young adults in their lives grew incredibly quickly with each passing bootcamp.
Over the many years since then, we have hosted these fantastic annual events where we educated, coached, and mentored more than 200 of our clients’ children and grandchildren, ensuring they had the foundations they needed to be financially secure – and successful – in adulthood.
How we empower our attendees to take control of their finances
We held our 16th Annual Financial Bootcamp on February 11th this year, and over the course of nearly 8 hours on Saturday, attendees heard from 6 different speakers from our group, who each covered a key component of financial literacy. From instructor-led conversations about the differences between RRSPs and TFSAs to interactive presentations on how to put together – and stick to! – a budget, the day was long, but when all was said and done, attendee feedback was 5 stars across the board, and they felt far more educated and empowered to take control of their finances.

Takeaways from Financial Bootcamp
All attendees leave not only with a far better understanding of the world around them, but they also receive a copy of “Decisions, Dollars & Sense” written by our very own Paul Lermitte and a digital workbook with various worksheets to complete and articles to read. We’ve included a few of them here for you to take a look at; feel free to share with the young people in your lives, or else let us know if you’d like to put them on the list for next year’s Bootcamp!
